Esme Sinclair

Esme reached an important milestone this weekend: she is now one month old.  She seems to have recently discovered her tongue, which she pushes out of her mouth against her bottom lip, and is facinated by the lights on the ceiling in the dining room.  She also enjoys laying on her new changing table, where she likes to kick her legs around and make little gurgle and cooing noises.  So cute!  And, she has already outgrown a few baby outfits.  She sleeps like an angel - an angel that wakes up screaming a few times in the night - but we love her!

It’s great to be home from the hospital. We’re settling into more of a routine with Esme, and getting more sleep. Today we took Esme to her first doctor’s appointment for a check up. She’s doing great - healthy and on track to be a creative and caring supermodel, genius, and world leader.

A lot of people have been asking about Esme’s middle name. It’s Meredith. I didn’t put that in the announcement because I wanted to emphasize her first name. I only use my middle name on standardized tests and diplomas, and my Mom used to use it when I was misbehaving. Esme will use Meredith for the same.

Secondly, a lot of people have been asking about Esme’s measurements at birth. She was 7lbs, 9 oz and was 20.5 inches long.

We’re not going to have new pictures *every* day, but Esme is twice as old as she was yesterday so she deserves a few more. Plus, I have a great camera, a laptop and a sleeping baby here. What else would I do?

Esme is doing great. She’s officially one day old now. Thanks for all the emails and comments here and on Facebook. We’ll keep posting pictures to Flickr. Here is one more:

Good morning.  It’s about 10am in Boston, and Esme will be born later today.  We are super excited, and a little tired.  We came into the hospital yesterday afternoon when Karen’s water broke.  Since then, not much has happened, but we’re sure today will be the day.  We’re a little relieved to have avoided April fools day.  I’m not sure what that means in the context of birthdays, but April 2 seems like a fine birthday.

Thanks to Esme’s Aunt Jenny for keeping us company last night.
